Champions will be decided this Sunday at Eriez Speedway, debut of RUSH Crate Modifieds!
Hammett, PA (August 20, 2014): The 2014 points season will come to an end this coming Sunday, August 24 at Eriez Speedway, with some championships already decided, but others will go to the last lap! Also on Sunday the RUSH Crate Modifieds will make their first ever appearance at Eriez.
The RUSH Crate Modifieds are new to the local racing scene this season and are growing in numbers nearly every week.
In regular racing action Rob Blair, with three season wins and a 255 point lead over Darrell Bossard, will repeat as the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models champion. With his win last Sunday, Blair secured the championship title but second is still up for grabs with Bossard having only a 37-point lead over Mike Knight, himself a former champion with one feature win on the season. Fourth is former champion Chris Hackett, another twenty behind Hackett with five-time champion Rich Gardner fifth, another 57-points back with one win. Neither Bossard nor Hackett have a win.
The Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models points shows former champion Kyle Zimmerman with a 148-point edge over Max Blair. The equates to 14 on track positions in the feature plus three on track spots in the heat for Blair to be able to overtake the leader. If Zimmerman places in the top fourteen in the feature he will be the champion even if Blair wins both his heat and feature and Zimmerman does not even start his heat. Mike Knight trails Blair by 46 in third with Darrell Bossard fourth, another 77 back. Bobby Rohrer is currently fifth, 14 behind Bossard.
Five-time feature winner Joel Watson has clinched the Plyler Overhead Door E-Mod championship. The 2012 champion holds a 256-point edge over former champion John Boyd, who has not yet visited Victory Lane this season. Two-time winner Gary Eicher is third, 86-points back with Dave Hess and John Boardman filling out the top five.
Nathan Short maintains a 111-point lead over defending champion Ryan Scott in the Conway & O’Malley Limited Late Models standings. Chris McGuire is third with his father, former champion Pat McGuire, fourth and Chris Ottaway, a former champion, fifth.
Brandon Groters has had a ‘career year’ in 2014 with five feature wins in regular season racing and clinching the Waterford Hotel Street Stocks championship with a 404-point edge over Jimmy Kennerknecht. Kennerknecht’s grip on second is tenuous though, with Mark Thompson a mere 25-points back in third. Don McGuire is fourth with former champion Chris Withers fifth.
Jason Brightman has only one feature win in the current season but consistent finishes have guaranteed him the title over five-time winner Matt Marcy with a 262-point lead. Travis Darling, winner last week, is third with Justin Boardman fourth and Ryan White fifth.
