Dad’s Night at Eriez Speedway Sunday: Penn-Ohio Pro StockSeries Makes it’s First Appearance!
Hammett, PA (June 11, 2014): This Sunday, June 15, is Father’s Day and Eriez Speedway will help Dads to celebrate the occasion with special give-a-ways for all Dads in attendance. Also on the card will be the first appearance by the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Series, a brand new series meant to allow street stocks from all local tracks to compete together and allow for a regional champion. At present there are ten scheduled events from Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to Expo Speedway, to Mercer Raceway, Sharon Speedway, Raceway 7, and Eriez. The Eriez stop is the third on the schedule where drivers will compete for $500 to win. A $200 bonus will be paid to the winner if he uses a 2-bbl carburetor. Upwards of thirty stocks are expected for this special event. No points will be awarded this week due to the nature of the show.
In regular action all classes will again race with the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models led by Darrell Bossard. The Centerville, PA racer leads the championship points even though he has not yet visited Victory Lane. Bossard currently enjoys a 72-point cushion over The Titusville Terror, Rob Blair, the defending champion and winner of one feature this season. 2008 Champion Chris Hackett currently is third in points, a mere one marker in arrears of Blair.
Bossard, also winless in Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models competition this season, holds a slim four-point edge in that points race over single winner Matt Latta, who in turn is only one point ahead of former champion Kyle Zimmerman, and just another two points back is Bobby Rohrer. Only seven points separate the first four positions in the closest title race of the year in the early going.
After a controversial finish on June 1 Plyler Overhead Door E-Mods feature former champion Joel Watson now has three wins and leads the points by a healthy 51-point lead over Dave Hess, also a former champion. 110-points back in third is Gary Eicher. Mired back in ninth in the standings is last year’s champion, Rich Michael.
On the strength of two feature wins Nate Short enjoys a 32-point cushion over second running Kelly Frederes, the Conway & O’Malley Limited Late Models opening night winner. Chris McGuire, who broke into the winner’s circle for the first time this year June 1, is currently third, 104 points out of the lead.
Jason Brightman got his first win of the season June 1 in the Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Challengers feature and took over at the front of the pack in points over Justin Boardman by 31-points with Travis Darling another 99 points back in third. Neither Boardman nor Darling have visited Victory Lane yet.
