Hammett, PA, (June 22, 2014): The Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models were the featured class racing for $1200 to win in an unsanctioned event after FASTRAK cancelled the scheduled regional event. Max Blair came from fifth at the start to the lead after trading the lead with Bobby Rohrer over the first eleven laps. It was Blair’s third win of the season. In Super Late Model action the top two spots were reversed from. The finish last week with. Rob Blair defeating his son this week. Defending champion Rich Michael won the E-Mod finale, leading from the drop of the green flag. Chris McGuire was married Friday evening then the honeymoon partly consisted of a trip to Victory Lane after the Limited Late a model feature. Brandon. Groters took over from early leader Don McGuire with two laps to go after swapping the spot several times then went on to his fourth feature win of the season. Matt Marcy dominated the Challenger feature for his third win of the season.
The Waterford Hotel Street Stocks were first up with sixteen cars starting their 15-lap feature. Brandon Groters, gunning for his fourth feature win of the season, started from the pole with Mark Thompson on the outside. After a lap one caution Groters went straight to the lead with second row-starting Don McGuire right behind. Trying first on the outside McGuire switched to the low side at lap four and got by Groters. Cautions at lap eight, nine, eleven, and thirteen slowed the event and prevented McGuire from opening much of a lead. After the final restart with two laps remaining, Groters got back by McGuire coming to the white flag and went on to the win.
Joel Prosser and Bobby Rohrer led the Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models to the green for their thirty-lap special with Rohrer leading the way. Derek Rogers spun his mount in turn two of lap two for the first caution period of the event. At green Rohrer again led the way with Matt Latta and Max Blair fighting over second. Blair got by Latta at lap six and began closing the gap on the leader. Caution flew again at lap eight when Khole Wanzer came to a halt in turn four, erasing Rohrer’s four length lead. One lap after green Blair got under Rohrer and assumed the lead but Rohrer came back to lead lap ten. At lap eleven it was Blair showing the way once again. On the eighteenth circuit defending champion Chad Wright got by Latta for third but the two ran side by side until lap twenty-one when Latta reassumed the spot. With six remaining Latta ‘jumped the cushion’ with the result being that Wright was again third. When Spanky Hall’s four checkered flags waved it was Blair, Rohrer, Wright, Latta, and Darrell Bossard.
Greg Johnson and defending champion Rich Michael led the Plyler Overhead Door E-Mods to the green flag with Michael leading lap one over Johnson and four-time winner Joel Watson. Chad Carlson, Kurt Thorpe, and Steve Simon all spun in turn two, slowing the race with caution at lap two. After another caution at lap two Michael again led with Watson and Johnson again side by side for second until lap four when Watson competed the pass. Kyle Reinwald spun at lap six, tightening the field behind Michael again. Watson and Johnson were again fighting over second when Joe Weber looped it in lap nine. At halfway it was Michael, Johnson, Watson, Butch Southwell, and Gary Eicher. Yellow again interrupted the event when Mike Bambarger spun at lap twelve. At lap fourteen several cars got out of shape with Butch Southwell suffering a hit to the right front that removed the wheel from the car and jumbled the running order, putting Dave Hess into third ahead of Watson and Eicher. With four remaining Hess took over second. Johnson spun after contact from Gary Eicher with both drivers sent to the rear from the incident. Michael went on to his second win of the season with Watson getting by Hess for second at the line, John Boardman fourth, and John Boyd fifth.
A full field of twenty-four Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models started their twenty-five lap feature. Ryan Scott and Matt Urban brought the field to life with Urban leading lap one. Several cars got out of shape with Bob Dorman coming to a halt at lap two, forcing caution. Caution again flew at lap three when Jordan Eck spun. Rob Blair, the defending champion was third for the restart behind Urban and Hess then second at lap four, when caution again flew. With five down the elder Blair was leading with Urban, Hackett, Hess, and Max Blair filling out the top five. Coming to the stripe at lap seven the younger Blair made a three wide move work and came to third, then was second at lap nine as Robbie Blair was powering away. At halfway Robbie had a half straight lead over his son with Urban third, Hackett fourth and Hess fifth. With five laps remaining the gap was closing when Rob Blair got to lapped traffic. In traffic with three laps remaining Max was on Rob’s rear bumper but caution flew when Hess and Brian Fardink spun in turn three as the leaders came out of turn four for the checkers. For the one lap dash Max was right behind Rob but the top two finished in reverse of what they finished last week. It was the defending champion’s second trip to Victory Lane in 2014 with Max Blair second, Urban third, Hackett fourth, and Boom Briggs fifth.
Points leader Nate Short and Chris McGuire led the Conway & O’Malley Limited Late Models to the green with Short showing the way. McGuire, married Friday night to the former Jodee Jordan, came back on the high side to grab the lead back at lap six. Short came back on the inside a lap later but made contact with McGuire, spinning himself out of second but not stopping. Yellow flew anyway, sending Short to the rear. At the restart Mark Frontera and Matt Tuzynski spun, delaying green a lap. Ryan Scott challenged for the lead but McGuire went on to his second win of the season over Scott, last week’s winner Chris Ottaway, Dustin Eckman, and Pat McGuire. A trip to Victory Lane was a fitting addition to the honeymoon for the newly-weds.
Andy Proper and Tom Cupp brought the Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Challengers to the green but it was fifth starting Matt Marcy leading the way when the field completed lap one. At halfway when yellow flew it was Marcy leading Justin Brightman, Cupp, Ryan White, and Travis Darling. Marcy led the last half of the event, winning his third feature of the year over White, Cupp, Darling, and points leader Jason Brightman.
