Max Blair Wins FASTRAK Northeast Touring Event at Eriez Speedway!
Robbie Blair gets second Super Late win of season.
By Jay Pees
Hammett, PA, June 23, 2013: The FASTRAK Northeast Touring Series visited Eriez Speedway for a $2000 to win feature and the Street Stocks raced for $500 to win and the Pittsburgh Circle Track Club also visited, presenting plaques to feature winners.
The weather was hot, temperature in the upper eighties, but the racing was hotter with tight action in each event. Max and Rob Blair once again accomplished the Father/Son perfect night on a racenight that had been postponed from Father’s Day, each winning both their heat and feature events and leading every lap along the way. Rich Michael picked up his third E-Mod feature win in six weeks of racing this season while Ryan Scott grabbed his fourth win in the Limited Late Models. Pat McGuire spun early in the Street Stock feature while leading but then put on an exhibition of driving from the back of the pack to take his second win of the season in his quest to repeat as track champion. The win was worth $500 to McGuire. Casey Burch romped to his second win of the season, leading the Challenger feature start to finish.
Nineteen Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Late Models started the 30-lap Northeast Touring Series feature with Matt Latta, a tour winner in 2012 on the pole and Chad Wright, a winner at Eriez earlier in the season and the current points leader outside. At the end of lap one it was reigning national champion and current Northeast leader Max Blair holding the lead. Khole Wanzer spun sideways in turn one at lap three, collecting Al Brewer for the first caution of the event. On the restart it was Blair inside with Latta outside the front row but Wayne Robertson came to second by the end of the lap and Wright was third a lap later. Wanzer got his second charged caution at lap six allowing Robertson to be alongside Blair for the restart. At five to go Blair led Robertson by only a car-length in traffic but Robertson could not mount a challenge. At the end, in traffic, Robertson was right on Blair’s rear bumper but Blair was the winner. Kyle Zimmerman and Bobby Rohrer both got by Wright to finish third and fourth with Wright falling to fifths at the finish.
The Eric Walter Tree & Stump Removal Street Stock feature ran for 20 laps with $500 posted for the winner. Defending track champ Pat McGuire started from the pole with Ron Johnson alongside. After two restarts with one lap complete McGuire continued to lead with Johnson running second. With three laps into the race, Andy Faulhaber spun in turn two and then points leader Eric Ester slid into the stopped car, causing enough damage to Ester that he retired to the pit. Another caution before another lap was complete allowed Ester to make hasty repairs and rejoin the field of the lead lap. Two more cautions were necessary before the race was able to resume with the leader McGuire spinning being the cause for that yellow period. Coming out of turn four with six laps complete, Ron Johnson, the new leader, spun, suffering a flat tire. Second running Brian Crandall also had a flat, leaving Mark Thompson the leader with Don McGuire and Gary Fisher second and third. Brandon Groters, who had spun on lap one, had worked his way back up to fifth. At the next caution on lap eight for a spin by Don McGuire, the order was Mark Thompson, John Phelps, and the race pole-sitter Pat McGuire. At halfway it was three-aide at the stripe with Pat McGuire just a nose ahead. One lap later yellow flew again and the order was McGuire, Phelps, and Thompson. Phelps stayed with McGuire until slipping wide in turn two at lap seventeen. A caution at eighteen put him right back in contention but McGuire drove to the win, his second of the season. Phelps settled for second with Thompson third, Chris Withers fourth, and points leader Ester fifth.
Rob Blair and Matt Urban brought the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Super Late Models to Spanky Hall’s green flag with Blair blasting into the lead and second row starting Chris Hackett coming to second by one lap complete. At the end of three Dave Hess was third. At halfway Blair had a quarter-lap lead over Hackett with Hess another two car-lengths behind in third. Scott Gurdak looped his mount at lap fourteen, erasing Blair’s lead but when green was again displayed he immediately began building it again. Andy Boozel came by Hess for third at fifteen laps in and was second at eighteen laps. Blair continued to lengthen his lead until the checkers flew. Boozel wound up second. Hess was alongside Hackett most of the final three laps but Hackett prevailed for third. After Hess, Urban was fifth.
Rich Michael led the Plyler Overhead Door Emods from the pole with track champion Joel Watson coming to second by lap two. At halfway Michael was leading Watson with outside front row starter Justin Carlson third. The order remained the same to the finish with Shane Crotty fourth and Dan Davies fifth.
Ryan Scott and Dustin Eckman brought the Conway & O’Malley Limited Late Model feature to the green flag with Scott taking the lead at the flag, looking for his fourth win of 2013. At the end of twenty laps he found it. Reigning champion Steve Kania came to second early in the race and was closing the gap but ran out of laps. Points leader Dustin Eckman was third with Tyler Green fourth and Jake Finnerty fifth.
Casey Burch led the Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Challengers from the pole position with Travis Darling right behind. Burch was never challenged and won his second feature of the season. darling was second with Kasey Hammond third, Stephen Enlow was fourth with Joe Beach fifth.
