Twin State Auto Racing Club Night at Eriez as championship racing heats up.
By Jay Pees
Hammett, PA, August 7, 2013: the Twin Sate Auto Racing Club, an organization of racing fans based in the eastern Ohio/western Pennsylvania region to promote local racing facilities, will have a club night at Eriez this week for a night of regular racing highlighted by the six-division show that runs quickly through heats and features.
With only four nights of points racing remaining before the season ending “September Sweep”, all titles are at stake.
Robbie Blair has been dominating the Jay’s Super Late Model racing this season, winning seven of the twelve features contested, including the last five in a row. Former champions Mike Knight, with two wins, and Chris Hackett, winless so far this season, trail in second and third. Due to his unprecedented winning streak, Blair currently has a 282 point lead in the championship run. Only twenty points separate the former champs currently second and third with fourth place Andy Boozel a mere twelve points bak in fourth.
Chad Wright currently has a 83-point cushion over his nearest pursuer, former Bonnell Collision Center FASTRAK Crate Late Model champion Kyle Zimmerman. Wright has two feature wins this season while Zimmerman has been shut out of Victory Lane so far in the season. Billy Henry, winner the first two weeks of the season, is only 8 points behind in third. Defending champion Max Blair, winner of three features this year, is fourth, just six points behind Henry and a mere 97 points out of the season lead. A bad night for Wright could tighten up this race close to the end of the season.
Rich Michael, towing all the way from Ishua, NY, has an incredible six wins, of twelve weeks of racing, in the highly competitive Plyler Overhead Door E-Mod title chase. 246 points separate Michael from second-running Joel Watson, the defending champion. Watson has two of the remaining wins. Watson has a near insurmountable edge over third-running Steve Simon, still waiting for his first feature win.
Ryan Scott has four feature wins in the Conway & O’Malley Limited Late Model division and holds a 188- point lead over single winner Chris McGuire. Defending champion Steve Kania is third at this point with three wins and only a seventeen point deficit behind McGuire. Dustin Eckman is only 37 points behind the top three.
John Phelps, opening night winner, took over the Eric Walter Tree and Stump Removal Street Stock points lead at the end of July and has opened up the lead over Eric Ester, who had his string of top finishes without a win, interrupted the past two weeks. The margin is now 133-points. Another 63 points back is the defending champion Pat McGuire. McGuire has two wins this season. Nineteen points out of third is Mark Thompson, with his crowd-pleasing ’57 Chevy bodied street stock.
2013 Kandy’s Gentleman’s Club Challenger champion Kasey Hammond leads the class by a very comfortable margin of 332-points that just seems to grow every week! Hammond won opening night and has visited Victory Lane twice since. Joe Beach, a single time winner earlier this season, is second while winless Jason Brightman is another seventy points back. Runner-up in the 2012 title race Wes Stull, is fourth, 27 points out of third.
